I cannot really give a long term review as I have had the same 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe since new and I only have 77 thousand miles on it. I live on Oahu so travel is short no matter where you go. I commute 16 miles a day and have every day since I owned it. I did replace the power steering pump that seems to be a Hyundai problem that is fairly common, serpentine belt which is just good maintenance and proper oil and fluid changes to transmission, power steering and brakes and cooling. The cabin has one flaw, the plastic dash and various parts chirp from bad fits and lack of insulation. Always has been that way. Other than that, I keep it covered both at home in a car port and in an underground garage and always have, perhaps that is why I have no paint issues at all. I hand wash it and always have since Oahu has no public spray wash booths, this seems to have given the paint a long lease on life. The only real issue is that it is realiable enough to get bored with it after so many years.

Drives well, has sufficient power for moderate hills (2.7 ltr). OK fuel economy (23.5 mpg at 75 mph on 8 hr trip), but expected somewhat better. Plently of cargo space for two, but would be pressed for bagage space for 2 adults and 2 kids. Excellent front windshield view. Seams to be well built and solid.

Nice car with excellent value for the dollar. It is plenty powerful with the big 6 cylinder and has loads of thoughtful touchs to the interior.

My 2001-5 speed Santa Fe sticker price was the same as some other used vehicles I looked at. Styling is sharp, interior space is best in catagory, performance and handeling are good for a small SUV

  • Well done! - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

My review is based on my past experience with cars. I currently drive a Lexus LX470, Accord, Lexus LS, and a Audi 90 Q (the audi I actually gave up a long time ago and it sits in my garage). As for qulaity, from the short time I had it is SUPERB ! I thought only the Japanese could deliver this level of quality. My first Korean import and I am happy though I do worry about the significant portion from Canada (bad experiences in the past with Canadian parts). The fit and finish is right up there with the rest of my cars. I would not mind paying for extra safety features such as side impact air bags and a safety cage. A XM radio with USB MP3 feature would be great. Less Curves.

  • Service concern - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I have had to sevice the check engine light 8 times in less than a year..Since there is an excellent warranty for Hyundais, I have no expense but my time and effort without my vehicle during these service times is almost not worth having the Santa Fe. I bought my Santa Ff for $22,000 at 459 $ payments

  • Bang for the Buck - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

We bought this vehicle as a demo unit (it had about 2800 miles on it). 10,000 miles later and several trips and weve found it to be a very useful car that has a different look and some impressive features for the price. The gas mileage seems a little on the poor side (it gets worse mileage than my 94 GMC Jimmy which has a bigger engine) but the overall ride is satisfactory. The AWD is impressive and although I wouldnt take our Santa Fe for any serious off-roading, I would trust it to handle most mud and gravel driving without serious problems. Parking in the city with this car will take some getting used to as it doesnt turn sharply...which weve found to be the only major handicap.

  • Sunroof caution - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

We were not informed that consumers lose about 2 inches of headroom with the factory installed sunroof. It is also leaks when we go through touchless car washes. It has been replaced and still leaks. The Hyundai regional rep. told us that all sunroofs leak.
